Guayacan (Guaiacum angustifolium) is a south Texas native. It is extremely drought tolerant and has very hard dense wood. It has many branches with slender dark green leaves and purple blooms in the spring and summer. Aeration or a light mechanical scaring before sowing hastens germination.
